Weaver Vale Housing Trust
DELIVERING SUSTAINABLE NEIGHBOURHOODS
Weaver Vale Housing Trust is an ambitious new organisation that prides itself on offering high-quality homes and services in the heart of Cheshire and is committed to delivering sustainable neighbourhoods. The philosophy of the Trust stems from its belief that the neighbourhoods its customers live in are just as important as their homes. The company believe that housing organisations can make a real difference to neighbourhoods and community spirit.

The Trust, which owns over 6,000 properties, meets the needs of a diverse range of customers - from families to individuals across Vale Royal - and was formed following the transfer of stock from Vale Royal Borough Council two years ago. It is committed to a substantial five-year improvement programme for the majority of its homes. These improvements include new kitchens, bathrooms, double-glazing and central heating.

The Trust is a customer-focused organisation and is committed to the values of openness and fairness for its 350 staff and 15,000 customers. The enthusiastic new management team respects the needs and demands which the Trust faces each day in providing a high-performing service. The collaborative effort of the Trust's staff, who have a range of expertise and knowledge, ensure that the ambition of the Trust is effectively communicated to customers through daily and weekly progress towards improving their homes, neighbourhoods and services.

The Trust is continuously seeking new challenges and new customers through improving and diversifying the services which are available and has a proven track record of service delivery, resulting in the provision of safe and healthy environments for its customers.

One key development area of the Trust is the development of 'assistive technology'. The Trust has launched one of the countries first ever Telecare flats in Davenham, Cheshire, and is set to dramatically transform the way older people can live their lives.

The flat has a range of built-in sensors that can ensure elderly and vulnerable people are living in a safe and secure environment - even when living alone at home.

The Trust has been carrying out trials of this technology over the last three years and is one of the first housing organisations in the country to be involved.

Older people, by nature, are often reluctant to ask for help. The aim of the Telecare system is to ensure that all elderly and vulnerable people receive the support that they need and want. The system has huge potential and can be used as an intermediate care package to assist earlier discharge from hospitals or as a long-term solution for people wishing to stay in their own homes.
