Smiths Detection, part of the leading UK engineering company Smiths Group plc, applies advanced technology to protect our everyday lives. Smiths Detection has brought together under one name a number of world leaders in detection technology, including Graseby Dynamics, Barringer, ETG, Heimann Systems, Cyrano Sciences and SensIR. The first of these, Graseby Dynamics, began the partnership with the UK military to develop chemical and biological warfare alarm and sensing systems for the battlefield. Now, as Smiths Detection, the Watford-based business supplies personal alarms for individuals; hand-held systems for checkpoints and reconnaissance; systems for ground- and air-monitoring; air-monitoring systems for vehicles, command bunkers and ships; and complete networked mobile biological warfare-warning systems. It has supplied over 70 per cent of the world's chemical agent detectors currently in use.
Smiths Detection provides multiple defences against multiple threats. From a basis of proven, practical and widely deployed systems, it is committed to a heavy research and development programme to provide the technologies to counter future threats.
