Plastic Omnium Urban Systems Limited
WAR ON WASTE
In the war on waste, Telford-based Plastic Omnium Urban Systems fights back effectively and resourcefully offering the following waste containment solutions:

.  Two and four-wheeled containers for domestic, commercial and trade waste
.  Recycling banks, above and below ground, for selective collection
.  Street furniture - litter bins, street cleansing and maintenance equipment
.  ID systems for the traceability of the container stock as well as management of the bin fleet
.  Office waste-management systems to enable the collection of a range of recyclable waste streams.

Not content with providing just the basic means, Plastic Omnium Urban Systems continually develops innovative product and service design features:

.  State-of-the-art waste-management systems-capable of recording waste collection data, producing operational statistics and having the ability to manage any future requirements for variable charging
.  Service solutions-a full programme of distribution, implementation, installation at site, cleaning and maintenance
.  Citybac Plus Range-wheeled containers incorporating a soundproofing system, anti-bacterial agent added to the resin, odour-neutraliser option; Citybac Bio: a wheeled bin to house green waste and to assist in the composting process.
.  A unique 'signature' for the lids of its wheeled containers-thanks to a remarkable photo-injection technique, lids are labelled in full colour, offering a practical solution to the problem of identifying waste streams for selective collection, a high level of visibility and a raised profile for the local authority
.  The Citybac Green-this wheeled container is manufactured entirely from polymer processed from post-use High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) bottles
.  Recycled plastics-old containers are granulated and the material compounded with UV stabilisers and copolymer additives to produce a recycled substance, which is then used to mould new wheeled bins.

Plastic Omnium Urban Systems have been associated with the following projects:

Bracknell Forest Borough Council
The council has adopted a number of Cityspots (underground recycling banks), with civil engineering, for the Longshot Lane Civic Amenity site. Two different capacity containers have been opted for, in order to collect targeted waste streams, such as clear, green and brown glass, cans/plastics and mixed paper/cardboard.

Chelmsford Borough Council's High Diversion Waste Recycling Initiative
A groundbreaking campaign in the South Woodham Ferrers area to separately collect paper, glass, aluminium foil, textiles and organic waste. The photo-injection process (see above) developed by Plastic Omnium was a great help to residents, ensuring that the correct materials found their way into the correct containers. Forty per cent of the waste from 6,500 households is now being recycled. Chelmsford Borough Council will also be adopting the first identification system for domestic refuse in the UK, as a waste-analysis and bin-fleet management tool.

Lancaster City Council
The council has invested in a uniform system of litter bins and dog-waste bins, as well as adopting an implementation and maintenance programme, which have completely changed the appearance of both Lancaster and Morecambe town centres and promenade.

Onyx Sheffield
Onyx Sheffield has sourced 140-litre blue wheeled bins for a paper and card-recycling scheme. Sheffield City Council Leader Jan Wilson said: "The blue bins are the biggest change to Sheffield's household waste collection service for years. This is a tremendous step forward towards raising recycling rates in the city, from the 5% that currently gets recycled to our target of 18% by 2005-6. There will also be less waste going into landfill."

Gill Davies, Southwark Council's Director of Environment and Leisure
"Introducing 1,300 specially designed litter bins across the borough will nearly double the total in Southwark and help play a big part in making Southwark cleaner and greener. By consulting local residents on where the majority of the new bins should go, we are confident that they will be sited where they are needed most."

Tesco Stores' Winter Maintenance Programme
For driver safety reasons, Tesco Stores are installing grit and salt containers in their retail car parks and petrol forecourts. Plastic Omnium produce the required containers in two sizes - 200l and 400l.

The Eden Project
'Citybac Green' bins have been sourced by The Eden Project for its external recycling stations to further promote its image as a sustainable entity, and 'Eco-Range' to segregate recyclable waste streams in the office environment. As The Eden Project's container partner of choice, an innovatively designed housing for 140-litre wheeled containers will replace the currently supplied 'Citybac Green' bins. These will afford a more interactive method of encouraging individuals to segregate waste at source.

By promoting and directly contributing to these and other initiatives, Plastic Omnium's place at the forefront of new technology in the waste-management arena is assured.
