Lex Defence Limited
PROVIDING A UNIQUE SUPPORT SERVICE TO THE MoD
The story so far
In 2001, Lex Defence was awarded a 10-year contract to supply the full range of non-combat vehicles to MoD establishments throughout Great Britain. The UK White Fleet contract provides vehicles including motorcycles, cars, vans, trucks and coaches - many specially built or adapted for military use.

The contract, one of the first 'Contracting For Availability' PFIs in the MoD, was developed with service and cost-benefits in mind. Rolled out to 1,800 dispersed units of all three Services, on time, within cost parameters and to plan, this flagship PFI has delivered 10,635 items of new, modern and more reliable equipment to military customers, equating to a staggering 15 new vehicle deliveries every working day.

Lex Defence's performance, in conjunction with its MoD Partner (SUV IPT), is equally impressive. Fully maintained vehicles are available for a total of 12,604,508 days at an availability rate of 99.5 per cent, and 98.1 per cent of periodic hire vehicles have been delivered on time despite 20 per cent of bookings made at less than the mandated 48 hours notice. The contract has achieved industry-leading customer satisfaction ratings above 95 per cent and its 'gain-share' system has delivered cost reductions for both parties.

The current situation
The team has established itself as a class-leader in public-private contracting, ensuring the MoD's vehicle stocks are more modern, economical, safer and efficient than ever before. Although established as an administrative support contract, the UK White Fleet has proved itself to be flexible and adaptable, providing support to the full range of military operations from Op Fresco (Fireman's strike) and Op Peninsular (Foot and Mouth crisis) to Op Telic (Iraq). Key strengths include Lex Defence's unrivalled knowledge of the MoD and a unique people and culture match. In addition, its regional operational network matches the MoD Transport Support Unit's system, and close local working relationships have facilitated rapid problem solving at a local level.

In 2003, with the renewal of the RAF Pathfinder contract, 3,500 RAF vehicles were added to the fleet and further additions made by budget holders keen to ensure their administrative transport needs are met by 'white fleet' vehicles, thus releasing MoD resources for military duties.

Looking to the future
The White Fleet contract is just one example of how Lex Defence is working successfully to provide unique integrated vehicle support solutions to the MoD. Currently responsible for over ?1bn worth of MoD contracts, Lex Defence is one of the largest suppliers of vehicles, fleet management and logistic services to the UK defence market. Lex Defence offers the greatest breadth of capabilities - and depth of service - in the UK vehicle support solutions arena from a single source. Capabilities range from fleet and supply chain management, through logistics support and software solutions, to risk management. No other company in the UK comes close in terms of capacity, or capability, to fulfil complex multi-faceted requirements from a single source, thereby enhancing responsiveness, and accountability, to the MoD.

As the MoD continues to strive for the best balance of investment in operational and support capabilities, at best value for money, it has a strong resilient and responsive ally in Lex Defence.
